WHAT IS AN AUPAIR

Au pairs are young people (male & female) between the ages of 18 and 26 (30 yrs.) who come from overseas on a cultural exchange visa to live with a family in a foreign land.

REQUIREMENTS:

To apply as an au pair, you must be able to answer “yes” to the following questions:

  • Age: Are you between 18 and 26 years old? (30yrs for some countries)
  • Experience: Do you like children and have at least 200 hours of experience caring for children?
  • Training: Have you completed (or are you finishing) high school education or equivalent ?
  • Driving: Do you have a driving license or can you obtain one during the application process?
  • Background check: Do you have a flawless extract from the criminal record?
  • Health: Are you in good health?
  • Time commitment: Are you ready to stay abroad for at least 12 months?

If you answered YES to the above questions then you qualify to apply as an AuPair!

DUTIES:

An au pair’s job description is multi-faceted and will vary somewhat depending on a family’s needs. Here are some typical au pair responsibilities included in an au pair’s job description:

  • Waking the children
  • Dressing infants and toddlers
  • Bathing and playing with the children
  • Preparing meals for the children
  • Looking after the children’s belongings
  • Making the children’s beds and straightening their rooms
  • Doing the children’s laundry
  • Cleaning up the kitchen after the children eat
  • Straightening up the playroom once playtime is over
  • Driving children to and from school, appointments or outings as requested by the host family
  • Stay at home with the children when the children are sick or on holidays

Remember that childcare requires a great deal of trust between the host family and the au pair. Therefore, the most important qualification is at least 200 hours of experience in caring for children. The more the better. These 200 hours may include babysitting, volunteering or working in a kindergarten or preschool, coaching a children’s sports team, leading a children’s activity, helping children with homework or other activities for children.

COMPENSATION
  • Global support: Comprehensive, global support during each phase, preparation, application, visa process and beyond.
  • Travel arrangements: Round-trip tickets may be negotiated with host family
  • Board and lodging: Your host family provides a room and meals. A private fully furnished room with internet access.
  • Allowance: A weekly allowance of the minimum amount of $ 195.75 (currency of your host family) that you can spend as you wish.
  • Educational opportunities: As an au pair, you take courses of your choice at a local college or university. Your host family contributes up to $ 500 a year to your studies.
  • Free time: You are entitled to two weeks’ paid vacation per year and your visa also gives you an extra travel month at the end of your stay !
